Overview
The Mint Julep is a deceptively strong Southern classic built on bourbon, fresh mint, sugar, and crushed ice. Intensely aromatic and ice-cold, it relies on bold mint expression and progressive dilution to balance the power of the spirit.
Preparation Method
Place the mint leaves, powdered sugar, and water in a chilled julep cup. Gently press the mint to release aromatic oils without tearing the leaves, ensuring the sugar is fully dissolved. Fill the cup completely with crushed ice. Add the bourbon and stir from the bottom upward until the metal cup is fully frosted. Top with additional crushed ice to form a dome. Lightly slap the mint sprig between your hands to release essential oils, garnish, and serve immediately.
