Overview

The Flaming B-52 is the fire-show version of the classic layered shot. Coffee liqueur, Irish cream, and orange liqueur form three visible layers, with the Grand Marnier top layer briefly ignited for theatrical service.

Preparation Method

Layer Kahlúa into a shot glass, then carefully float Baileys Irish Cream over the back of a spoon. Float Grand Marnier on top as the final layer. Briefly ignite the top layer, then extinguish completely before drinking.

Use caution when handling open flames.

Flaming B-52 Deep Dive: History, Style, and Use

Serving Style

Serve in a clear shot glass with three clean layers. The flame belongs only on the top layer and must be extinguished fully before drinking.

Food Pairings

Pairs with chocolate desserts, espresso, tiramisu, vanilla ice cream, and late-night dessert service.

Origins

The B-52 became a modern layered-shot classic in the late 20th century. The flaming version developed as a bar-show variation using the orange liqueur top layer for visual impact.

Best Occasions

Best for controlled party service, novelty shot menus, and late-night bar settings with proper fire precautions.

Tasting Notes

Kahlúa gives coffee sweetness, Baileys adds cream and cocoa texture, and Grand Marnier finishes with warm orange intensity.

Style & Character

Sweet, layered, theatrical, and explicitly built around visual impact.

Variations

The non-flaming B-52 uses the same layers without ignition. Do not overfill the glass when preparing the flaming version.
