Overview
Gluhwein is a traditional hot spiced wine, gently heated with sugar, citrus peel, and warming spices. A staple of European winter markets, it delivers comforting aromas and balanced sweetness without ever reaching a boil.
Preparation Method
Combine the water, sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, and citrus peel in a saucepan. Heat gently and let steep without boiling for about 20–30 minutes. Strain out the spices and peel. Add the red wine and heat slowly until hot, without boiling. Serve warm in an Irish coffee glass, garnished with a cinnamon stick.
